#TBT – Sears Stores in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s

It’s that time again! #TBT and I thought I would search for images of Sears stores past and found some amazing vintage shots.

There are a ton of sites, even some social site pages devoted solely to vintage Sears stores and even catalogs. It makes you realize how big a part of our lives Sears has been.

Here is a very Mad Men throwback Sears family shot.

Sears Store in the 60’s.  Couldn’t find the location, guessing from the palm trees somewhere in California. Aren’t the cars amazing?

50's

Sears in Canoga Park in 1964, it was the largest Sears store at the time.

This shot was from Tampa, Florida in the 60’s.

Sears, Los Angeles, California in 1943.

Do you have any memories of Sears stores or images of Sears that you grew up with?

Here is the Sears that I grew up going to with my parents in Houston, TX in Memorial City Mall. It has had a few facelifts since the early 80’s but it is still the Sears my Dad goes to get his Craftsman tools and my mom still goes to for her nightgowns and slippers to this day.

Sears North Hollywood gave me an opportunity of a lifetime. 1960 JFK made a political stop there. I was 12 with a lot of energy and ran from my mom. Direction was the flatbed JFK was standing on. Walla made the jump, his arms came down and snaped a picture. Years later it is published in Life Magazine and their I am. I have a big photo framed.

I believe the Sears with location unknown is Sears San Bernardino. It is still there as of today.

Its sad to see when i was a kid growing up in the seventies. It was a very happening place to go ,at anytime you could always see friends from school . Now even the school has fell victim to the bulldozer of urban sprawl. Such a changed world we live in these days certainly not for the better. God help us all.
